Pohick Bay Regional Park; Lorton, VA

  • Date:  July 20, 2007
  • Length of stay:  One night

Pohick Bay Park is in Lorton, VA which is just south of Washington D.C. on Rte 95.  We had driven all day from Western NY and it was the perfect stopping place after driving through D.C.  It is a beautiful public park, situated on the Potomac River.  Their sites only offer electric so make sure you fill your water tanks before you park.  They have nice paved roads and very clean bathhouses.  There is no playground, however the paved roads were a good substitute, allowing the kids to ride their trikes around.  The sites were mostly shaded and there was plenty of room to walk the dogs.  Total payment was $29.50.  We would go back if we were passing through Lorton again at quitting time.  If you are looking to vacation in D.C. this could be an inexpensive way to do so.  There is a commuter rail nearby.  There is also a marina and dock which we did not have time to explore.  This was a lucky find for us at the time, as there really isn't much else around the D.C. area for camping.
