Campsite Review

Letchworth State Park; Castile, NY

  • Date:  Many
  • Duration:  From one night to one week

Letchworth State Park is very close to me and my family.  It is located in Western New York and I have camped there many times growing up.  The park sits on a stretch of the Genesee River Gorge and roars over three major waterfalls.  Aside from this breath-taking view, there is so much to do here.  There are miles and miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking.  There is fishing and horseback riding.  If that is too tame for you, you can also take a hot air balloon ride and see the falls from the air.  Also within the park is the elegant Glen Iris Inn & Restaurant where you can have a nice dinner out or have your wedding catered.  There is a playground, several food stands, and a pool.  Near the camp store are open recreation fields and an indoor recreation center.  The park is open year round, however camping is available from mid-May to mid-October.  Sites have electric only, so be sure to fill your water tanks before setting up camp.  It has been a while since I have camped there but at the time rates were in the $15-$20 range.
