Astor Landing Campground & Marina; Astor, FL
- Date: November 22- 26, 2006
- Length of stay: 4 nights
We camped with a group of friends during Thanksgiving break. We picked the location basically because it was close to where each of us were having Thanksgiving dinner with our respective families. It is a cute little campground located off Rte 40 on the St. John's River. Each site has full hook-ups; electric, water, and sewer. The sites surround a little pond with a nice fountain in the center (however management frowns on swimming in it). There are nice boat docking facilities that share well kept bathhouses. In addition there is a great playground and plenty of room for running the dogs. The only drawback to this campground is that because it is private there tends to be more full-timers and snowbirds spending their winters there. This means that management is much more strict about quiet hours. We discovered this after a long night of card playing. Needless to say, we were given a stern talking to the next morning. Despite the miscommunication, fun was had by all. If you do end up camping in Astor, be wary of the corner store selling blue crab. Their prices are high and they will charge you $5 for a five gallon bucket to transport your crab. The rates at Astor Landing are reasonable at $28 per night and it is a great location for boating. There is a launch on premises and they do offer longterm slip rental.
